Why Ingrown Hairs Happen
When hair grows back after waxing, it sometimes curls under the skin instead of growing straight out. This is more common in areas with coarse or curly hair, tight clothing, or if dead skin blocks the follicle. It's not a sign of a bad wax — it's a skin care issue that's totally preventable.
Exfoliate Regularly
Start exfoliating 3-4 days after your wax and continue 2-3 times per week. Use a gentle physical scrub or a chemical exfoliant with salicylic acid. This removes the dead skin that traps hair underneath. Don't exfoliate the first 48 hours — your skin needs time to recover.
Moisturize Daily
Hydrated skin is softer and more pliable, making it easier for hair to push through. Use a lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer daily. Avoid heavy oils that can clog pores in the waxed area.
What to Avoid
Don't shave between wax appointments — it creates sharp edges that are more likely to become ingrown. Avoid tight underwear or clothing right after waxing. Don't pick at ingrown hairs — this can cause scarring and infection. If you get a stubborn ingrown, come see us and we'll take care of it at your next appointment.
